One of my friends in America works for a snake breeder who specialises in Boa Constrictors.
She is very experienced with working with Boas, yet she got caught out (As you can see).
She was going to feed a 6ft Boa Constictor, had the rat on the tongs as she should, pulled open the box in the racking and BANG!
6ft Boa shoots out of the box, hits the hand that’s holding the tongs, the tongs get dropped, the snake releases and dives down to grab the falling rat. (All of this happened in less than one second)
By the way, the hand that was holding the tongs was about 3ft from the edge of the box.
As you can see, it looks like quite a serious bite but the second picture shows what it was like after it was cleaned up, virtually nothing.
She said it wouldn’t have hurt at all if one of the snake’s teeth hadn’t gone through the cuticle of her nail............. ouch!
Yet again, another feeding response bite.
