BDO 2003

The BDO 2003 was held at AMAZONIA in Central Scotland.

The official turn out this year was 52!

This was easily the best venue so far and I’d like to thank Neil and Steven for helping with the talks and making it an interesting and fun day for everybody. :o)

The highlight of the day for me was the surprise cake!

When Bill walked in with the big brown box I thought he’d brought a new pet for me to see and asked him if it was a snake. He grinned and said ‘Well, sort of’ and  opened the lid...............

It was a Corn Snake cake that his daughter had made especially for the BDO. I was actually speechless for about 3 seconds and to anybody who’s met me when I’m talking about snakes, they’ll know that’s a LONG time! ;o)

The BDO 2003 was memorable for a number of reasons but reason number two must have been when we were in the handling room and Neil was showing us a Tarantula. Sandra was standing at the very back of the room, right next to the exit door, saying things like ‘Ohmygawd!’ and ‘Oh no!’

Now, the handling area has a small camera fitted above the counter which is connected to a large TV. This enables people at the back to see what’s going on (I’m not sure Sandra really wanted to see what was going on, but she was watching the TV anyway).

Neil decided to lift the spider up to the camera to let people at the back see it better..............

Sandra went a funny colour, took a step back and her leg brushed against the handle of a bag which was sitting on the floor.

I didn’t know somebody could jump so high from a standing start, they’re still trying to figure out how to get the fingernail marks out of the ceiling. ;o)

I’m sure at least one person will never forget the BDO 2003!
